USCIS Temporarily Suspends Biometrics Requirement for Certain Applicants
May 14, 2021U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services has announced that, effective Monday, May 17, 2021, it will temporarily suspend the biometrics submission requirement for certain applicants requesting an extension of stay in, or change of status to, H-4, L-2, and E nonimmigrant status. The suspension will apply through May 17, 2023.
As a result of the policy change, processing times for H-4, L-2 and E dependents, and accompanying spousal employment authorization applications, should be reduced. Despite the recent announcement, any applicants who receive a USCIS biometrics notice prior to May 17th should attend their appointment as scheduled.
We will continue to monitor this situation closely, and provide updates as they become available. Please contact me or another member of our Immigration Practice Team if you have any questions, or would otherwise like to discuss.
